About this policy

This privacy policy applies to the Kickabout app for mobile devices, developed by Andrew Heaney as a free service, provided "AS IS".

Information you provide

When you register for Kickabout, we collect the following personal information:

Registration is not mandatory, but core features such as creating and joining groups will be unavailable without it.

We may use the information you provide to contact you with important notices and updates about the app.

Legal basis for processing

We rely on the following legal bases to process your personal data under applicable data protection law (including the UK GDPR and EU GDPR):

Information collected automatically

When you use Kickabout, certain technical information is collected automatically by third-party services to support app functionality, stability, and improvement. This may include:

Firebase (Google) — collects device type, operating system, IP address, and general app usage data to support authentication and data storage. This data is processed in accordance with Google's privacy policy.

Sentry — used for error monitoring and performance tracking. Sentry may capture:

Only your Firebase UID is attached to Sentry events — no name, email address, or IP address (IP is explicitly removed before transmission). Data is stored in the EU (German data centre) and processed in accordance with Sentry's privacy policy.

PostHog — used for product analytics to understand how the app is used. PostHog may capture:

Only your Firebase UID is attached to PostHog events — no name, email address, or device identifiers. Session recording is disabled. Event properties are limited to group and game identifiers and contain no personal information. Data is stored in the EU and processed in accordance with PostHog's privacy policy.

Location data

Kickabout does not request or collect precise real-time location information from your device.

Third party services

Kickabout uses Firebase (provided by Google) for user authentication and data storage. Your name, email address, and unique user identifier are stored securely within Firebase. Firebase acts as a data processor on our behalf and is subject to Google's data processing terms.

We use Sentry (provided by Functional Software, Inc.) for error monitoring and application performance. Sentry receives your Firebase UID and technical diagnostic data as described above. Sentry acts as a data processor on our behalf and is subject to Sentry's data processing terms.

We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog receives your Firebase UID and usage event data as described above. PostHog acts as a data processor on our behalf and is subject to PostHog's data processing terms.

We may also disclose your information in the following circumstances:

Account deletion and data retention

You can delete your account at any time from within the app via the Profile or Settings screen. Upon deletion:

Diagnostic and analytics data held by Sentry and PostHog is retained in accordance with the default retention periods of those platforms. For details, refer to Sentry's privacy policy and PostHog's privacy policy. Once your Kickabout account is deleted, your Firebase UID is permanently removed — any residual data associated with that UID in these services becomes irrevocably anonymous, as there is no longer any way to link it back to you.

If you need assistance with account deletion, you can also contact us at heaneyandrew11@gmail.com.

Your rights

Under applicable data protection law, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at heaneyandrew11@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection supervisory authority — for example, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK, or your relevant EU data protection authority.

Opting out

You can stop all data collection by deleting your account within the app or by uninstalling the app at any time using your device's standard uninstall process.

Children's privacy

Kickabout does not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 13. We encourage parents and guardians to monitor their children's usage and to instruct them never to provide personal information without permission.

You must be at least 16 years of age to consent to the processing of your personal data (or have a parent or guardian do so on your behalf, where permitted).

If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us at heaneyandrew11@gmail.com immediately.

Security

User data is stored securely within Firebase, which employs industry-standard security measures. Access to your data is limited to what is necessary to operate the app. No system can guarantee against all potential breaches, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the effective date on this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Your consent

By using Kickabout, you consent to the processing of your information as described in this policy, including any future amendments. "Processing" includes collecting, storing, using, and disclosing information.
